I haven't posted in forever, mainly because I found it hard to get to the computer with my kids home. THey are now back at school! The first day was Mon. I will try and sum up.
We had a great summer. I took the kids to alot of places. We went swimming, to museums, Jumping Jack's, the mall, and we did more but of course I can't remember. We usually spend alot of time at the pools, but this summer it rained almost every day in June and July. It's no t the rain that stopped us but the thunder. THey close the pools when there is thunder. We also saw a bunch of movies. My favorite movie was by far Nancy Drew. All of us enjoyed it, including Christopher. We tried and failed to go to Galveston several times. We finally managed to have a weekend there this weekend. We spent the whole time at the beach since the beach is free and we are feeling very poor at the moment.
I hate to bitch about money, but this summer had been terrible for us financially. We have enough money but, my God. It started with the water main break. Nope. I'm wrong. It started with the dishwasher. My dishwasher hasn't really cleaned the dishes since we bought this house last year and it has gotten worse. One day, I looked and it hadn't drained. Not the first time this had happened. The dished were also not clean. O.K. I went out and priced out dishwashers. Always fun with 2 children. Found one at Lowe's. Went home. My husband and I talked about it and decided to wait until the dishwasher totally died ( it did finally drain and sort of wash the dishes). Next, we had a water main break. ON a Sunday. Call the plumber, he came out and fixed by that afternoon which was great. THen I noticed that our sink was leaking alot. THom looked and thought we were starting to get wall damage. THe last thing we wanted was for the cabinets to get damaged which would cost us abotu $20,000 so we decided we better get new counter tops and a new sink ( our old coutertops were terrible and so was the sink.). Thom thought that we really should go ahead and get the new dishwasher since it wasn't working (I told him he would have to do the dishes that weren't clean) before we got the new countertops. Somewhere in there I decided that I was tired of the house controlling me and I needed some control back so I started painting the downstairs and I haven't been able to stop ( just for the record I love the new color and I think it looks beautiful.). I went and bought a new sink and dishwasher and set up a contractor to do the countertops. To save money my husband is supposed to be putting in the back splash. At the end of July I wanted to go to Galveston and stay Sat. - Wed. My friend Kelly, and her two girls were going to join us on Tues. to go to Schlitterbahn and go to the beach on Wed. Well, Thom got sown ther on Sat. and the electricity was out. It turned out that the breaker box out by the meter had failed. Since no one had been to the condo in a couple of weeks, the fridge was full of maggots. Thom thought the fridge was a loss, but we managed to save it. We came home Sat night after cleaning the fridge and I worked at getting the breaker box fixed. It was fixed on Mon. so Kelly and I decided to go down and continue with our plan. We went to Schlitterbahn and had a great day. When we got back to the condo we realized that the air conditioner was not working. Great, now we had to replace that (BTW, the air conditioner was from 1986). We went to the beach and had a great time , but I was very stressed about all the repairs. All the repairs have now been done. We have new countertops, new dishwasher, new breaker box, new air conditioner and new paint. We knew that all this had to be done, we just didn't expect it all at once.
Other then that we had a fun summer but it was very, very long. Normally we go to NY to visit family, but we decided not to this year so we could save money (how's that for irony?). The summer was also 2 weeks later then usual because Texas is going to start schools later from no on and this was the transition summer. Even my kids were ready to go back to school. Next week I'm going to start working 3 days a week, so that should bring in a little more income. I really want to go to my Mom's house for Christmas. I'm hoping that we have enough frequent flyer miles to make that possible. THat's it for now.

Well, so much for keeping track of what we are doing this summer. I will try to sum up. The week before last the kids had VBS. It was nice having my mornings free. In the afternoon, I had planned various activities. I don't remember some of them. On Tues., afternoon we went to the pool with my friend Kelly and her two kids. We made a plan to go to the mall the next afternoon and do a "mall day". A mall day consists of eating lunch in the food court, riding on the merry go round, then we would spend time in the children's museum and the Houston mMuseum of Natural HIstory that recently opened. And Kelly wanted to buy some summer books. THis is a long story. The original plan was to meet at the the mall at about 12:15. I my way I realized that I go right by Kelly's house so I might as well stop and we could go together. Usually, I offer to all ride together in my van. I now deviate from my normal behavior. I didn't offer (I have no idea why) and she said she would follow me. Katy( her daughter) came over to our car and I asked if she wanted to ride with us. She wanted Lauren to ride with her instead. I said fine. Kelly was following me and somehow ended up 2 cars behind. There are 2 ways to get to the mall. They both take about the same amount of time but one has less traffic. I ALWAYS GO THE WAY OF LESS TRAFFIC! That time I decided to go the more straight forward way because Kelly wasn't right behind me and I didn't want her to wonder where I was. A little farther doewn the road and the car in front of me stopped short. I slammed on my brakes and DID NOT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME! Unfortunately, the truck behind me hit me, then hit me again. I pulled to the side of the road and luckily my car was undamaged and so was his. I was very relieved and he said I have to check the back of my truck. I looked and the accident was worse then I had originally thought. THe car behind him had plowed under his truck and Kelly had plowed into the back of him. Luckily, no one was hurt. I ran back to Kelly's car to make sure they were o.k.and the kids came out crying. Kelly's airbags had deployed and apparently when airbags deploy they fill a car with smoke. To make a long story short, everyone was fine but Kelly's car and the other car in front of her were totaled. WHat I couldn't stop thinking about was that I had done two things totally out of character. I didn't have Kelly ride with me and I went a different way to the mall. If I had done either of those things Kelly's car wouldn't have been totaled. I've gotten over the guilt (I keep telling myself the accident wasn't my fault), but it is amazing how little decisions and have a huge impact. jANyway, we went to the mall anyway (after the police and firetrucks left) and had an o.k. time. Kelly bought a new minivan that she loves and the owner of the other car was going to sell his car and get a new one anyway. It all worked out o.k. Next time Kelly and I are going in the same car.
On Fri of that week I went to a conference for my CE credits. It ended up being very interesting but it showed that it is a small world. I sat in the back in case I had to go to the bathroom and some latecomers came in and sat down next to me. I asked them where they worked and it ended up that they worked in the clinic where I had taken my dog last summer! THey didn't remember me but they remembered the case. It wasn't one of those cases that is easily forgotten. I had brought our dog in that we had had for one week because he had a fever of 107 (that is not a typo). THey treated him for 3 days and tried to figure out what was wrong but he died. It ended up he had both canine distemper and canine anedovirus. THe poor thing never had a shot. I comfort myself by saying that at least he had a good life at the end.
I think that is enough for now. I will try to post more summer things later.

Well, we've made it through the first week of summer vacation and have started on the second. I was going to try and post what we did every day since the summer usually goes by and I can never remember what we did. I will try to at least post sometimes to keep track (mostly this is for me, everyone else may find this boring.). Last week - Mon. Came home from Galveston, Tues. - recoved from Galveston and cleaned the house, explained to the kids that we were not going to spend the entire summer watching tv and they should play with their toys, it worked! they played with their toys, Wed. - went to the pool, Thurs. - went to Old Macdonald's Farm, Fri - recovered from Old Macdonald's Farm and got rready for the weekend. Lauren was going to Galveston with her GirlScout troup and Christopher had a sleepover. This meant that THom and I had a night without kids. We went to see Knocked Up. It was cute but not fantastic. It had some very funny moments. Sat - I went to work and then I went down and met the Girl Scouts in Galveston. The trip went well. The girls had a good time. Sun - came home from Galveston. Today the kids went to VBS this morning and this afternoon they have been playing with friends. All in all summer is going very well. I'm hoping that at the end of the summer I can look back and say "Ah, that's how we sp[ent the summer." It always goes by so fast. Next year my babies will be in 2nd and 4th grade. I felt like crying today when I dropped Lauren off at VBS because 4th grade is the last year that she is in regular VBS. After that she goes to what they call Fish Camp. It is for 5th and 6th graders. I can't believe that she is that old already. That's how the summer has gone so far and it has been fun.

I havn't posted in a while so I will try just to sum up. Our floors are in! It took about 2 weeks but it was worth it. I hate carpet. Now I can't wait to do the upstairs, but one thing at a time. Of course the dog had to christin (sp?) the new floors. She threw up before they were done. THis is why we have tile. It looks beautiful, and now when I clean it looks clean.
We are almost done with school! Last day is May 30th. I never realized how much work school was for the parent. I'll be glad to be on summer schedule, but I know I will be ready for school to start again.
Julie is no longer working at the clinic. She basically forced Doc to fire her. Frankly it's a relief. No more wondering if she is going to show up. We've hired a new guy who seems great. He is very calm and funny. I can't tell you how much that is needed at the clinic.
Lauren decided not to have a birthday party this year!! I gave her 3 choices. She could have a party, we could fly Grandma down, or she could have a $100. She chose the cash. THen she started to feel bad because she didn't have a party, so I took her to the mall to spend her money. Just mommy and daughter. She loved it and so did I. She only spent about half her money, but she had a great time going into a store and finding something to buy. I think that's what I want for my birthday. She got the money on top of her gift from us.
We've been really sick this week and it is such a relief to feel better. I actuall had THom stay home 2 days because I was totally nonfunctional. I slept all day on Tues. I don't think I've ever done that before (had him miss work). Even when I had my appendix out 2 years ago. Of course, I asked him to, but he was in the middle of a project and couldn't. This did not make me happy. I guess he has made up for it now.
THe end of school is always super busy but hopefully I will post more in a timely manner.

I'm sorry I'm posting so late. I was waiting till closer to the end of the day and then the kids got on. I let them stay on for most of the evening. The floor guys were hear until 7:00. they have the dining room done and have started the kitchen. I believe the plan is to get the tile laid and then do the grout. It was very messy and loud today. We managed to eat both dinner and breakfast at home today. I ate lunch out because it was too noisy for me to eat here. I'm not sure how much more they will get done before you get home. I'm hoping they can get done enough to hook my washer and dryer back up. I'm going to run out of clothes soon. I can't think of much else to say. I will try to talk more tomorrow. I miss you and Love you!!! Shelley

I forgot to tell you that every time I ask when they will be done I get a blank look. I'm hoping that they will be done out here by the time you get home and maybe starting our bedroom. They are meticulous but not speedy.

[mood | calm]

Today ended better then it began. I had to get the kids up at 7:10 and try to get out of here so we could pick up donuts and make it to church by 7:30. We were only 5 minutes late. The kids whined about getting up early but I told them I needed cooperation or they would lose their money. I didn't have time or patience this morning. Bells went okay. I had trouble focusing and made some mistakes I hadn't made before. Luckily, probably only Penny, Nancy and I noticed. THe kids stayed in the nursery for the first serviceand in Derek's office for the second. The service had a strange section. They are having some kind of campaign to raise money for the building. Apparently, we are badly in debt. My take on that is if he hadn't offended some of us with his stupidity he wouldn't have this problem now. I will gladly give money for the building when he is no longer preaching.
In between the services and after church I dug out the kitchen. THis made me feel much better. THe problem was, the workers had just piled things up in a haphazard fashion. I'm not complaining since I was supposed to do it. It just was the situation. ANyway, I put things in much neater piles and was able to get the counters and the kitchen table mostly cleared off. THis made me feel better. I also picked upour bedroom. The clothes that I need to give away had spilled out so I picked them up. I also put the things that were in the hall closet in neater piles. This makes me feel that I have brought a little bit of normalcy back into my life. As a result, we ate both lunch and dinner here today. I need to get milk and we can have breakfast tomorrow. I don't think I will get much else since I am hoping they will be installing tile in the kitchen so the kitchen will be out of commision at that point. ANyway that about sums up my day. THe weather is beautiful. I wish I was at the beach also. You seem to be spending alot of time there. BTW everyone definatly thinks I got the short end of the stick this week. There you are at the beach, I'm in a house torn apart. If you go to London, you will definately have to get me some Georgette Heyer books. I think tomorrow I will treat myself to a new book that came out a couple of weeks ago. I miss you and can't wait untilo you are here to share the chaos with me! I love you! Shelley

today went okay. I don't think I will feel that things are well again until this is over. I love having the new floors, I just don't like the actual installation. The kitchen was so bad this morning I decided to get a bagel on my way to work. I was so stressed out I forgot my lunch. I ended up going over to Blockbuster and getting a Giant Slim Jim and a small bag of miniature snickers. Other then that work was fine.
The workers came again today and they are working now. I had Heather come over to check on them. She also let the dogs out. I didn't want them to be outside at 6:30 in the morning.
Tomorrow I have to play bells and sing in women's choir. I am going to ask Dereck if it is okay for me to leave after we sing. I don't want to spend all those hours in the sanctuary not knowing what the kids are up to in his office. He will probably let me. I am going to ask Gwen if they can stay in the nursery during the 8:30 service. I think she will let them as long as it isn't too busy with babies. I ahve to be at church at 7:30. WE also have to eat breakfast out. I don't know what I will do about Mon. Maybe I will get some donuts or something.
I can't think of anything else to say. I'm a bit brain dead right now. I told Dr. P that a cat had a lot of pee in it's urine instead of blood. Amazingly she knew what I was talking about. I hope you get home soon.I love you and miss you! Shelley

Thom is in Brazil, so we are going to be using LJ as a form of communication again.
I got your e-mail yesterday and I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday. I'm also sorry I didn't talk long when you called, but I had C on the other line and my phone was about to go dead. I didn't want it to go dead without wrapping up our conversation. ANyway, I did find the other charger. It was cleverly hidden on top of my bedside table. I didn't post yesterday because I was emotionally drained.
I was going to post about the floors but I may just sum up and tell you details when you get home. IT is a long story. You were here for the beginning. They called back yesterday and told me it would be $4200 more to do it on the diagonal. I told them I wasn't going to pay that. I said it was their mistake and I would pay $1000 more but that was it. I said if they couldn't do that I would send the workers home and return the tile and have Castle Carpet do it. The salesman told me he didn't have the authorization to do that and he would have the store manager call me. The store manager called me and asked what the problom was. He was actually very nice. I explained what had happened and that I was willing to pay $1000 more, but that was it since it was their mistake. HE said that was fine and that he was releived to recover any of it. I came out to tell the workers that it was all set and they could continue working. The man in charge was surprised. He told me that he thought I was going to walk from the project. I must have had a tone in my voice that said I was pissed and they better fix it. They knew I wasn't bluffing and I was prepared to walk from the project. Today, they started to lay the tile (for Mari and loucheroo - I have no idea whether to use lay or lie). I thought everything was fine. At 2:00 I got a call for Floor Installers telling me that they are stopping the project because there wasn't enough money. I knew that was bullshit. We had $15,000 approved and in place for this project. The only thing it could be was the thousand. She was very rude to me and said my credit card wouldn't go through. I was furious. I called Lowe's and the salesman immediately connected me to the store manager. I told him that Floor Installers had called me to tell me they were stopping the project because the money wasn't there and my credit card had been declined. He was furious. Apparently, the project card wouldn't except the extra $1000. That made sense, because if you remember we were already over the limit. He said he was waiting to call me about it because he didn't want to stress me out after yesterday(translation - he wanted me to calm down and not give me another reason to walk. I guess he knew how serious I was.) and he was going to call me this afternoon to talk about another method of payment and he had talked to Floor Installers about this. What both he and I couldn't believe was that they would pull the guys off the project when $15,000 of the $16,000 was in place. I told him that was the case and the woman was very rude to me and I didn't appreciate that. HE understood ( and I could hear his suppressed anger at them) and he would take care of it. He took me credit card number and yelled at them. Actually his words were, "I spoke to the supervisor and took care of it". I still can't believe they were willing to screw up this big project for a lousy $1000. I'm telling you, I respect the store manager for seeing the big picture. At this moment they are laying the tile. THe store manager said it should be all set.
That's about it. We can't eat at home right now. It is also very dusty. By the time you get home it should be mostly done.
I'm getting very hungry right now so I will figure out where we are going to eat.
I really miss you and love you! Shelley

Well, I am back from vacation. It was great. I'm exhausted. We got there on Wed. night and just went back to the condo and went to bed. The next morning, we got up early and drove to Canyon Lake. We rented a boat and spent the day boating. It was alot of fun and the day was beautiful. We managed to see a Bald Eagle and 3 Big Horned Sheep. both these sightings were very exciting for me. I got to see a Bald Eagle 2 days in a row! I've only seen one 4 times. The first time was in the Adirondacks and I only had a fleeting veiw. The second time was in The Woodlands and again it was fleeting. The third time was the day before we left. I was driving along and one flew right in front of me. He was beautiful. According to Mary, The Woodlands is the only urban place that has nesting Bald Eagles. Then, the next day I saw one at Canyon lake,AZ. THe Big Horned Sheep were exciting because I have never seen them in the wild before.
On Fri. we got up and drove to The Grand Canyon. We took our time, and got there midafternoon. It was incredible. Pictures do not do it justice. It is just amazing. And big. I know you know it's big, but I can't describe the vastness. And the beauty. Unfortunately we didn't see any elk. My mom saw two dead elk, but I don't think that counts. We saw many mule deer, and a raven pair. We stayed over night in Flagstaff and came home through Sedona. I loved Sedona and would like to go back when we can spend more time there. It is a beautiful place. We went to Slide Rock State Park. They have a spot where you slide down the river. We didn't put on our bathing suits because we thought it would be to cold to go in. Which it was but we went in anyway. In our clothes. THe water was 55 degrees. It was very cold but it was worth it. We went down twice. I think Christopher was the youngest to go down that I saw.
The next day was Easter and we went to my cousin's church. It was very conservative. Enough said.
On our last day, Mon. we went to the zoo, Hole in the Rock, and the Desert Botanical Gardens. The zoo was small, but very nicely done. Hole in the Rock is self explainitory. It was neat. The Desert Botanical Gardens were very cool. It is amazing how many desert plants there are. We also saw a house finch, a lower goldfinch pair, several lizards and many ground squirrels.
We got home yesterday night.
I really liked AZ, but I don't want to live there. It is very, very dry! I know, it's a desert, but it was dry! When you live in a high humidity place, it feels as if your skin is cracking. You need to drink and drink and drink some more or you get a headache. I think I like humidity better (remind me to reread this in Aug.).
That's it for now. THe floor guys are here starting on my floors!

I have been meaning to post and just haven't quite gotten there. I wanted to wrap up Spring Break. We spent Fri. at Old MacDonald's Farm and saw a goat give birth to a kid (technical name for baby goat.I'm not joking.). It was way cool. I think one of the other moms and I were the most interested. The two of us stayed longer watching the baby then anyone else. On Sat. we went down to Galveston and had an all right time. We didn't do much and it was crowded. WE got spoiled during the winter when there weren't very many people there.
We now officially have the use of Thom's laptop. I thought this would make life easier. In some ways it does, but he doesn't get home until six. Then we eat dinner, and after that the kids get on and I don't want to be in the computer room with them so I'm back to dial up. My kids have discovered Webkinz. They have fun, but they are becoming a bit obsessive about the computer. they each have one Webkinz and they are getting another one for Easter. After that they can buy them with their own money. Actually, the Webkinz that they have now they bought with their own money.
I have been very tired lately and I think I have it figured out. I have been taking Benedryl every night because of the pollen. My thoat would feel swollen which makes me nervous. Benedryl stops the reaction in it's tracks. Anyway, I think the Benedryl was knoking me out for the whole day. I believe that medication builds up in your system if you take it alot and never quite wears off. Anyway, my throat wasn't feeling as swollen, so I didn't take any meds. last night. I felt better today. That's a relief, since I don't want to figure out why I'm lathergic. Been there, done that.
I guess that's it for now. Next week it's off to Phoenix!

I really wanted to post yesterday but I was too tired. Tuesday we went strawberry picking. It didn't rain in the morning so we were able to go. The pickings were slim. I'm afraid that we may be throwing alot of them away. Oh well, at least we had fun.
Yesterday, I decided to go to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. THe main reason I wanted to go is because I had bought ride tickets to the carnival and it was the only time we would be able to go and I wanted to use them up. THe weather channel was calling for rain but they had been calling for rain all week and it hadn't been too bad so I decided to go anyway. I checked on line and found out the kiddie carnival opened at 11am. I thought that it was perfect. WE would go to the kiddie portion when it opened and then go into the livestock show since the rain wasn't supposed to start until afternoon. It was a good plan. Unfortunately, the show was misleading. I assumed that the kiddie carnival was the part where the kiddie rides where. That seemed to be a good assumption. Unfortunately, it was wrong. The kiddie carniva had about 3 very small rides in it, and 2 decent sized, but smaller rides. WE went on the 2 rides and then went to the section of the carnival that had the smaller kid rides. THe under 56 inches section. Apparently, that was considered part of the rest of the carnival and it didn't open until 2pm. I was not the only one annoyed. Other parents had made the same assumption. I really believe that a Thomas the Tank Engine ride and flying bumblebees should be a part of the kiddie carnival. ANyway we went into the indoor stuff first thinking to come back after 2pm and go on the rides. WE had fun. WE saw chicks hatching, we pet rabbits, we saw goats, watched bees, learned about cotton and saw a cow get milked. The kids loved it. Oh! WE also watched the pig races. When we got done it was just after 2 and of course it stared to storm. It stormed and stormed. Usually, Houston is alot like a tropical city. It will storm for about a half an hour tops and then the storm moves on. That didn't happen. It stormed for about an hour, we went outside, it was freezeing, so we went back inside and bought sweatshirts and umbrellas, went back outside and tried to go on some rides. WE managed a few and then it started to storm again. WE waited for that storm to end then went back out and went on a few more rides. I think we did this 3 times. THe last time we only had 4 tickets left, it had poured on the kids while they were on their last ride so we paked it in and went home. WE were there for 8 hours. That was too long. I was beat and I'm still recovering.
Today, I had to go to work and I took the kids with me. THey did great. THey followed directions and did exactly what I told them to do. THey behaved so well, I took them to Baskin and Robins after work and let them have a 2 scoop cone.
I'm exhausted today and the vacation isn't over yet. We are going to Old Macdonald's Farm tomorrow, and we go to Galveston on Sat. THat's it for now I'm too tired to write more.

[mood | happy]

I am trying to remember to post more often. Mostly because it's nice to look back and see what I did. WE had a pretty good weekend. THom got home on time on Fri. On Sat. my Aunt and Uncle stopped by to visit. THis is great because they live in Alabama. My Uncle decided to collect antique tractors when he retired. He work on them, shows themand then sometimes he sells them. Anyway they were picking up a tractor on the south side of Houston so they came by to visit us. It's wonderful when any of my family comes to visit. The worst part about living here is being so far away from family. THen Sat night my neice came to visit. Her boyfriend and her(that does not sound grammitically correct) want to move down here. They came and spent the night Sat and Sun. During the day on Sun they want apartment hunting. They continued today. I'm not sure what they chose since the left for the airport from apartment hunting. It will be nice to have some family here.
Today, we went to the mall (the kids are off on Spring Break.). WE were going to go to a fun place called Old Macdonald's Farm but it was storming this am. Going to the mall is very fun. THey have now added an exhibit from the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It is great. It is small but well done. So now when we go to the mall we can go to the scienc museum, the CHidren's Museum, eat lunch and have a snack. It's really great. Tomorrow, we plan on going strawberry picking. It is supposed to rain but we don't care. It should keep down on the crowds. I'm not sure what we will do on Wed. I wanted to go to the Livestock Show and Carnival but it is supposed to rain that day too. I will bring the kids to work with me on Thurs. and we will go to Galveston on Fri for the weekend. We always do alot during Spring Break.
I think that's it.

I've pretty much decided to go with Lowe's. Unless you have a compelling reason not to.
Amy did my hair today and I ran a bunch of errands. She can't do your hair because she is going to OK for spring break. She is leaving Fri. afternoon. She gave me the phone number of her friend Heather who is going to be doing our hair from now on. Heather though doesn't like to do hair in the evening or weekends. We will talk about your hair when you get home. You could also see if anyone can do it there. Your hair isn't that hard to cut.
I don't understand why you feel bad about work and Easter. You need to get back to Houston because they need you. Modec has had you exclusively for a month, we can have you for a few days at Easter. I know it's a different part of the company but give me a break. you've been away from your family for a month without any compansation. That's a long time to be away. It's their fault for not having enough people on staff.
ON the bight side, if the vessel doesn't sail, you shouldn't miss Easter because you need to go to Brazil.
I was talking about you and I going to desert without the kids. They will be ar Parents Night Out.
Everybody is doing fine here. I still have to call Aunt Mary and Jen about this weekend and I still need to get an airmattress.
I think that's about it. It's been a boring day. The most interesting thing was Isis getting into the garbage and strewing it about the house. I wasn't happy with her.
I can't wiat to see you on Fri!!! I Love you and I miss you!!! Shelley

I'm trying to decide where to begin. I have some information about floors. I think we need to go into it in detail when you get home. I'm leaning towards Lowe's. I went to Lowe's and it is about the same as castle carpet. The difference is in the financing. The bottom line is we can get what comes down to is a loan that we don't get any interest on for 7 months. After that the loan is 8%. You don't have to pay back interest with this loan. I think it's actually better then a bank loan. I also went to the guy that Robin gets a discount with. He was about 2 grand cheaper. The problem is we would have to pay that up front. We could do it piecemeal, but you need to pay for all of the materials up front. We would probably have to pay about 7-8 grand. At that rate we might as well go with Lowe's. WE will talk more about it when you get home and I will show you the estimates.
That was pretty much my day. It's amazing how much time this is taking. The only other thing I did today was plant the plants we bought the other day. I think the yard is going to be so much better this year. The kids helped me plant. They are actually at an age that they can help.
I'm glad to see that you have a time of arrival. I think I will take the kids to Parents night out and then come to pick you up. Maybe we can go to get desert or something and then pick them up early. I wish I didn't have to go to work. Oh well. Laura said she could watch them just in case you don't get home on Fri. Jen and her boyfriend won't be here until Sat. night. their plane gets in at 11:45 pm. I think we can leave a key for them under the mat and they can let themselves in. I have to be up early on Sun. to sing. Also, it's the day we turn our clocks ahead. They are renting a car. I think they plan on going apartment hunting on Sun. They go back on Mon. at 5:10. I'm not sure what time Aunt Mary and Uncle Les will be here. They said sometime in the afternoon. I may call them tomorrow. Also, we need to get an air mattress for Jen and her boyfirend to sleep on.
I guess that's it. I Love you and Miss YOu!!!! Shelley P.S. Libby was found guilty!

Mostly I worked on the afghan today. I think I have about 1/4 done. I'm hoping to have more by the time you get home. The way it has been going it may all get done. I can't believe the vessal isn't leaving until Thurs. If you aren't going out to it anymore can you leave as soon as it leaves? I'm wondering if you will still come home on Thurs. or at least on Fri. Let me know so I can make arrangements for the kids on Sat. I must admit that I'm starting to get pissed off. Frankly, although I know they are paying you well, it's not enough for you to be gone for a month. I have to assume that this is an unusual thing since the other engineer quite, and it won't happen much. It better not.
Anyway, not much went on today. I met Jeffery's Mom. She seemed nice. She went with us on our walk today. So did Mary. Altogether we had 4 people and 5 dogs. WE were probably quite impressive.
I need to leave soon to get shoelaces for Christopher's shoes. Isis ate his. After that we need to grab some dinner and get to the pack meeting at school. Christopher is getting his tiger badge or else I would skip it.
Tomorrow, I am going to Lowe's to find out more about the floors. After that I think I will go to Viking and see what they have and what their prices are.
Let me know more when you find out. I miss you and I love you!!! Shelley

I pretty much told you everything on the phone. but, I made a mistake. We are coming home on Tues. not Wed. I thought Wed. because that date was in my head. That is the day I am picking up the dogs from the kennel. So, you can work on the Wed. we leave and be back the following Wed. You will be gone 4 work days.

Thank goodness today is almost over. I will put some thngs in a locked post since it is about work. Work was hell. Not as much as your work, but hellish for me.
THe kids had a good time at Katie's party. You can thank Kelly when you get home that they now have a new stuffed animal. Katie's b-day party was at Build-A-Bear. I went to pick them up and stayed talking to Kelly and Christie for a while. Christie said that she doesn't ever went to spend the night at the Lexington again. She also told me that the troop only goes to it every 4 years or so. They have so many groups that do it that is all they can do (I'm sorry if I don't make sense. I am very, very tired.).
Aunt Mary called. She said that they are coming to Texas again next Sat. to get a tractor. She is going to come by to visit us. I told her that Jen may be here. She thought that would be great. IT would be a mini family reunion. Do you think work would let you go home if you told them you had to attend a family reunion?
You seem much calmer. I'm glad. I can't imagine being somewhere all by myself. It must be very lonely. I think about you all the time. Of course, when I'm awake your asleep.
I took Osiris in today and sure enough he had little tiney crystals in his pee. This means he has bladder stones and he could block. We have him on a specail diet for 4 weeksto dissolve the stones and then he will maintian on another diet for the rest of his life. THis wouldn't be too bad except Sushi shouldn't eat alot of this diet. I'm going to have to feed her more canned food to fill her up so she doesn't eat alot of it. Isis has started limping again. I'm pretty sure it's a soft tissue injury.
I'm going to see if someone can help me with the fabric and mirror. Dana said her husband might be able to help.
I almost forgot to tell you that Kelly and I went out to dinner last night. She took her kids to dinner and a movie, and Gary is out of town. We went to The Melting Pot. It was great. It was sort of expensive. Their individual meal could easily feed 2 people. We absolutely loved their chocolate. We may go back just for desert.
That's it for now. I Love YOu and I miss YOu!! Shelley

I think that you should calm down before you make any decisions. You didn't mind working for Modec before all this happened. It also may make a difference whether you are there at the beginning of a project. I can't believe you have to stay longer. Don't they realize you have a family? I think they should pay you a bonus if you are going to keep you there longer then a month. Part of the problem is our expenses go up. I have to find babysitters when I work and next week I have a doctors appointment. It's one thing for 3 weeks, it's totally different for over a month. Maybe this is why the other guy quit.
I heard from Jen Mott today. Her boyfriend is interviewing with a company on the North loop. If he is offered a job, they will stay with us next weekend and look for apartments. She asked me what the good areas were, and I told her she needed to let me know where his job is. She said that was o.k., they don't mind commuting. I don't think she realizes how big this city is.
I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond today and got the fabric and the moldings. I put it up , but I have to move one of the moldings. Yes I measured and I used the level and I still got it wrong. When I take the kids to dinner and a movie, I will go to Lowe's to get the mirror and some wall mollies. I'm very proud of myself. I used the drill and got the moldings hung up. Hopefully I won't damage the wall too much.
Tonight the kids are going to Kelly's to spend the night and tomorrow they will go to Katie's birthday party.
I need to take Osiris in with me tomorrow because he wasn't peeing very well this am. He did finally go but he had a hard time.
I guess that's it for now. I Miss You and I hope that you can convince them to send you home earlier then the 15th. I Love YOu!!!Shelley

I was surprised to hear from you last night. Apparently you don't need that much to call me since I did put in the post that the things could wait until you get home. Anyway, it was good to hear from you.
I am going to post this one publically and then I will post one privately so let me know if you can read it. Christine can't give you a password because there isn't one. I friends lock it and if you are on my friends list then you can read it. You should also be able to read it if you sign in as me.
Not much happened today. Dr. P is having some of the same issues with Lizzie that we are having with Lauren. It's nice to have someone else that is having talking back problems to talk to. Work was slow but for the first few hours we were down two techs. Ernesto came in abotu 11:30 since both Jenny and I were leaving at 2:00. He had been throwing up. I told him to stay away from me. Dr. Rowlands has strep. I told her to stay away from me also.
I'm not really sure what to get the kids. Usually the clothing sizes are different from country to country, but just for reference, Christopher is a size 6 and Lauren a size 9. I would look for cool figurines or , for Laure, jewelry.
I have a mildly funny story to tell you that I forgot to tell you last night. When I was talking to Penny at first I was at Lowe's. My phone went dead at the begining of the conversation. I hurried home and thought I could remember her phone number. I thought the last numbers were 1413. I dialed and got an answering machine. I knew Penny didn't have an answering machine so I hung up. I look up her number and it was 1314. I had transposed the numbers. Not unusual. I've done it many times before. I didn't think anything more about it. When we got home from choir, there was a message on our machine. I listened and I heard "Hi, this is Vicki Judice (Christopher's teacher) I saw from my caller id that you had called earlier. Please send me a note to lete me know what you wanted". My first thought was "I didn't call, I should see if her number is listed and call her back so she can call the correct person". I looked up her number in the phone book and sure enough her number was the one I had transposed. What were the odds? Not only did I know the person that I had dialed the wrong number to but she was a current teacher to one of our children! I called her and told her what had happened. She thought it was funny.
I guess that's it for now! I can't wait to see you next week!! I love you! Shelley
